Music
We like music, and we believe that God likes it when we worship him with songs. During our Sunday gathering we spend some time singing together as a way to worship Him and prepare to learn from His Word.
We have lots of ways you can get involved in music ministry. Here are the various types of music and service we’re working on.
Worship Encouragement Team
What is the worship encouragement team?
A team of 2-5 individuals who meet monthly to partner with the music leader. We hope to work as a team to evaluate and give creative input for Sunday worship.
Who are we looking for?
Individuals who have a shared vision for corporate inter-generational, Biblically grounded, Truth-seeking, genuine, and life-transforming Sunday worship. We are looking for those who have a heart for corporate worship (and all its elements), who are gifted in giving constructive feedback, and who love giving creative input (no specific musical or artistic gifts are needed).
How do I get involved?
Talk to Doug Hann or Paul Shelton. We’ll treat you to coffee, get to know you a little more and share the vision for the team.
Special Music
What is special music?
On a semi-regular basis, we want to incorporate “special music” in our worship time. This could be a solo or a small group of musicians.
Who are we looking for?
People that are passionate about using music to help other people connect with God. We strive for music that is excellent and anointed, that utilizes people’s gifts and enables God to speak.
How do I get involved?
Touch-base with Leona Martin or Paul Shelton. Our hope is to schedule your creative art on a Sunday where it strengthens a specific theme or message.
Sound Team
What does the Sound Team do?
We set up and run the audio equipment needed for worship services as well as other ministries where audio reinforcement is needed. This includes equipment such as microphones, speakers, soundboard, CD player/recorder, etc.
Who are we looking for?
People who have a good ear for music, ability to learn the sound equipment used, and willingness to show up early to events to help setup.
How do I get involved:
Talk to Ross Stutterheim or Garry Bury. These gentlemen should also be available around the sound booth before or after a service. If you would like to observe what a member of the sound team does during a Sunday morning service, feel free to hang out in the sound booth and observe.
Choir
What does the choir do?
The choir provides special music for Sunday worship for the Christmas and Easter seasons, with the intent to contribute more regularly (through special music, smaller groups, singing with the worship team, singing on special Sundays, etc.) Music will range from medium easy to more difficult, challenging works to help stretch the singers’ abilities.
Who are we looking for?
People of any age who have:
- A passion for music and praising the Lord in song
- The ability to commit to the group for a specific time
- Musical aptitude
- Eagerness to learn, or ability to read, music
You may already be reading music and don’t realize it. Following the progression of the notes on the page is a big part of reading music, even if the names of the notes can’t be identified.
How do I get involved?
Let Leona Martin know you are interested. Then feel free to come to a practice on Thursday nights 7-8pm to see if you feel comfortable in the group and enjoy the challenge. You may be asked to come a few minutes early or stay a few minutes late to sing something that will showcase your voice and help determine your vocal range and which part would fit you best.
Worship Team
What does the worship team do?
We lead the musical worship time on Sunday mornings. Our intent is to help people connect with God through music. We try different styles and instrumentation to flavor our worship and praise.
Who are we looking for?
People with a passion for worship and musical gifts. Instrumentalists as well as voices that blend with the music leader (Paul) and the modern/contemporary feel of our worship (all ages welcome).
How do I get involved?
Talk to Paul Shelton. We’ll have you spend a few minutes playing and/or singing with Paul to get to know you.
Youth Worship Team
What is the youth worship team?
The idea behind this team was to continue to integrate the youth into the overall DNA of Westbrooke. This group is middle school through college and career. We have been leading once a month and we practice every Wed 5:30- 6:30pm. Dean Tomlinson has been leading this ministry, but now with Paul Shelton and Joel Georgeff involved, Dean is hoping to transition it to them soon.
Who are we looking for?
People ages 12-24 who have a heart for authentic worship. People who have a musical interest and have some level of commitment (sound board tech needed too). We do want to have a team aspect and see real community lived out thru this ministry.
How do I get involved?
A few ways: showing up on Weds or better yet, contact Paul Shelton or Dean Tomlinson.
