Children’s Ministry

Dear Parents,

Proverbs 22:6 says to, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  We believe that the best way for you to train your children is to first train yourself.  According to one expert,” Spiritual development is not so much about what your children know but who they are.  Helping them to become people of godly character starts with you; it is not the job of a church to produce such people.”  Our job, as a children’s ministry team, is to equip parents and give them tools, resources, ideas, encouragement, etc.  We believe that you are the most influential person in your child’s life right now.  What you say and do speaks volumes.  “Churches have a viable role…but it is parents who will be held accountable by God for the spiritual growth of their offspring.”  Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions

The Bible makes this distinction very clear in many places:  Deut. 6:4-9, “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone.  And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.  And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today.  Repeat them again and again to your children.  Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again…” NLT

Children’s Ministry at Westbrooke Church consists of four instructional levels.

    • 2 Year Olds
    • 3-5 Year Olds
    • 1st-3rd Graders
    • 4th-6th Graders

Our curriculum is called Generations of Grace by John McCarther.  Generations of Grace is a biblically based and God-centered curriculum designed for children three years old through the sixth grade. Over a three-year period, this curriculum covers the Old Testament historical books, the life of Christ, and lessons from Acts and Revelation.
Every week, children in each age range learn from the same passage of Scripture in a way that is appropriate for their respective age levels. We call this a "unified curriculum." A unified curriculum enables families to discuss one passage together each week, reinforcing the lesson that children have.

Thanks for your interest in Children’s Ministry and we look forward to assisting you in any way we can.

Sincerely,

Shannon & Rebekah Wheeler, Directors of Children’s Ministry
