Small Groups

Large groups for corporate edification, Small groups for building relationships

So much of Christianity is made up of urging ourselves to love another, to share our faith, to simply obey God, to live in community. But what motivates us to engage in these activities? Is it Sunday worship? Is it Self-inspiration?

We can classify our Christian walk into a balancing act between large corporate edification opportunities and the counter balance of small dynamic gatherings of devoted followers. Jesus spent time with the masses (to teach, heal, to display the Father’s character) but he expended even more time with His small group (the disciples and the supportive women followers).

In this context He showed them how to share needs, serve in practical ways and develop deep relationships.

Today, we too can experience the early church small group dynamic.

Hebrews 10:24-25 offers us some in-sight, “and let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities; not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together (as believers) as is the habit of some people, but admonishing-warning, urging and encouraging-one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.” (Amplified version).

The word comfort comes from two Latin words, con and cortis, meaning “strengthen by being with.”
